Jessi, you won't remember my family, but your folks might. My husband, Dr. Mike Grubb, was an anesthesia resident at Shands 1993-1996. Our little girl, Laura, was almost the same age as you and like you, she was a huge fan of Barney. Her constant companion though, was her Winnie-the-Pooh (your dad made her a gorgeous painted wooden puzzle which she treasures to this day.) I brought Laura to the clinic to play with you during your appointments a couple of times--you two would play hide and seek under and around the exam table. You were slightly taller than Laura, and your folks gave us several boxes really cute clothes and shoes that you had outgrown (obviously recognizing a young couple with very little money and a quickly growing baby!) Your mom even made Laura a couple of skirts. All 3 of our girls have worn those same outfits and even after they had outgrown the pink tennis shoes with the Tweety Bird on the side, I couldn't bare to part with them (they were your favorite your folks had told me). Your dad also painted us a beautiful winter scene with a cabin when I told him how much I missed the Nebraska snow at Christmas time. Even with all they had going on at the time, your folks took us under their wing. They saw we were a long way from home with no family close by and they were so generous and kind. And strength and faith like I have never seen!! What an inspiration you all were. You were so tiny when you were diagnosed, but you were so well behaved and sweet!! You wouldn't complain or whimper and I never saw you when you weren't grinning from ear to ear!! And what a beautiful young lady you have grown into!! God does indeed listen to prayers!! You are all the proof I need, kiddo!!

Love to you and your folks,

Cindy Grubb
